Western Conference Playoff Matchups
Let's take a look at the Western Conference Playoff Matchups. The Los Angeles Lakers
finished the regular season with the second best overall record. They will be facing the Utah Jazz
in the first round of the playoffs.
Everyone knows that the Jazz can't stop Kobe Bryant
. The Jazz are better off trying to contain his teammates scoring. The Jazz will have to rely on Carlos Boozer
to defend Pau Gasol
, the Lakers second leading scorer. Gasol is lacking in toughness and can't handle the pressure in close games. Boozer must force Gasol to take bad shots and at the same time create good chances for himself. However, I predict that the Lakers will win this series in 5 games.
The Denver Nuggets
versus New Orleans Hornets
series features the battle of the point guards. Chauncey Billups
is the stable veteran point guard who makes great decision at clutch timing. Chris Paul
on the other hand is a lightning quick point guard with flashy assists. It will be the battle of the veteran against the new bloods in the point guard position. However, I reckon that the homecourt advantage will help the Nuggets to win the series in 6 games.
San Antonio Spurs
and the Dallas Mavericks
were once the Western powerhouse. With all their star players aging, they met once again the playoffs first round. Tim Duncan
is still the defensive force for the Spurs while Dirk Nowitzki
relies on his shooting skills and athletics ability. Nowitzki will have problem guarding Duncan on the low post and Duncan would have problem chasing around Nowitzki. This means that the series can go either way... I will be rooting for the Mavs to come out victorious in a gruesome 7 game series.
against the Houston Rockets
in yet another exciting matchup. The Blazers are back in the playoffs after missing for a few seasons, while the Rockets have never advance past the first round in any playoffs series for quite a while. Brandon Roy
will be leading the Blazers in the attack. Ron Artest
will be leading the Rockets defense. This will be a very close matchup as both team have alot to play for. I fancied the Rockets to come out victorious in 7 games.
