Entry: Prediction on the Atlantic Division Sunday, August 30, 2009

The Atlantic Divison consist of the Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors. The Celtics and 76ers made the playoffs last year but with teams like the Raptors and Nets have made key changes and they can easily challenge for a playoffs spot. Here's how I think the Atlantic Division will be at the end of the season.

Can Pierce, Garnett and Allen win another championship together?

The Celtics are definitely the favorite to win the division title again. Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo carried the team to a 62 wins season without Kevin Garnett. With the return of Garnett and the addition of Rasheed Wallace, the Celtics' front court will be tougher to match up. If Marquis Daniels sign with the Celtics as expected, the bench depth will be improve as well. Looks like another 60 wins season for the Celtics and possibly another title for Boston.

The core of Bargnani, Calderon and Bosh will be join
with many new faces

In an attempt to make Chris Bosh to stay in Toronto, the Raptors did a major change to the roster. The Raptors did multiple trades that landed Hedo Turkoglu, Reggie Evans, Amir Johnson and Marco Belinelli. They signed Jarret Jack and Rasho Nesterovic while drafted a rookie with great potential, DeMar DeRozan. The team look great on paper with great depth at each position,  however chemistry will play a big part towards the team success in the new season.

Can Brand and Iguodala be a dynamic duo?

Losing Andre Miller is not a big deal for the 76ers. The 76ers make up for it by drafting an all around combo guard, Jrue Holiday while Louis Williams will be handling the PG duty from now on. Newly acquired Jason Kapono will be the outside threat the 76ers lacking in the previous season. Thaddeus Young will be a year more mature and thus his play should improve steadily. Andre Iguodala will still be the go-to-guy for the team. If Elton Brand can fit in with the team this season, the 76ers will be among the favourites to grab a playoff spot.

With Carter out, Lopez and Harris will be leading the Nets

Even after trading away Vince Carter, the Nets still have a great core of young players which includes Devin Harris, newly acquired Courtney Lee and Brook Lopez. Players like rookie Terrence Williams, Yi Jianlian and Sean Williams are still under the developing stage. Veteran like Rafer Alston, Bobby Simmons and Tony Battie help balance out the youth team with experience. However, the Nets will be just another above average team at best since young players need time to get used to the palying style in the NBA.

Will Robinson and Lee return? Can Milicic, Hill and Douglas
make the Knicks better?

The Knicks traded away high-scoring Quentin Richardson for Darko Milicic, drafted Jordan Hill and acquired Toney Douglas on NBA Draft day. However, none of the newly acquired players will have an immediate impact. Not to mention that the Knicks haven't reach an agreement with Nate Robinson and David Lee. If they Knicks can improve on their previous 32 wins season, it will be good enough.
